What is the ITV?

The ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) is Spain's mandatory vehicle roadworthiness test — the equivalent of the UK MOT. All vehicles registered in Spain must pass regular ITV inspections to legally drive on public roads.

ITV for Imported Vehicles

When importing a vehicle into Spain, the ITV import test is more thorough than the standard annual inspection. The inspectors verify that the vehicle meets Spanish/EU safety and emissions standards, and that the vehicle identity matches its documentation.

How to Prepare Your Vehicle

When you use our service, we pre-inspect your vehicle and handle any preparation needed. Common items include:

  • ✓ Headlight realignment (most UK RHD vehicles need this)
  • ✓ Ensure all lights are working
  • ✓ Check tyre condition and tread depth
  • ✓ Verify windscreen is free of significant chips/cracks
  • ✓ Ensure exhaust system is in good condition

What Happens if You Fail?

Don't panic! If your vehicle fails the ITV, you have 60 days to fix the issues and the retest is free within that period.

We'll arrange any necessary repairs through our trusted local garages. Most issues are minor and can be resolved quickly. In our experience, the vast majority of vehicles we prepare pass first time.
